Precautions of Whey Protein

There are no documented side effects provided a person does not have an allergy to dairy proteins or does not need to restrict dairy products for medical reasons. If people are allergic to dairy proteins, they should consult with a physician prior to consuming any type of whey protein.

With a complete high quality protein, whey protein should be an acceptable protein source for healthy pregnant women and children if they are not allergic to dairy proteins. The alpha-lactalbumin in whey protein is the main component in human breast milk. Thus, infant or premature infant formulas often contain whey protein. However, before using it, consulting a physician to be sure whey protein is necessary.
